Jake's Country Meats services over 5000 families and 100 stores and restaurants in Michigan, northern Indiana, and Chicago by selling 100% of the animals raised on the farm. The farm is now owned by one of the families in the seventh generation, Nick and Renee (Robinson) Seelye.
The business also helps support other local producers with quality and transparency at the forefront of their farming practices. Their day is fueled by developing relationships to better serve each other, to focus on what is important to our bodies and the land; creating quality you trust by farmers you know.
Jake's specializes in raising heritage breed animals outside - on pasture and in barns with straw and hay for bedding. This allows the animals to enjoy grazing on grasses and alfalfa, or foraging in the woods on berries and nuts. Jake’s grind their own feed that includes their farm-grown, GMO-free, corn and soybeans with a closely monitored diet of vitamins and minerals. Animals are never treated with antibiotics and their farm is certified by the internationally known organization - Animal Welfare Approved (AWA).
Spread over three homesteads plus hundreds of acres of cropland, they employ environmentally sound management practices for the fields and forest that help build the foundation for a sustainable farm.
